Cardassia Prime
Forward by the Author
Just some quick notes as to where I stand with the previous series (Columbia) and
some thoughts on this new series.
First of all, there will be more Columbia stories. I will write them as anthologies
from time to time, just to keep those who liked the Columbia and crew up to date,
and to round out the series.
As for the new series, first of all, thanx for being here reading this. I hope you
like it.
I'd found myself wondering what life was like on the other side of the line. How
do Cardassians deal with the loss of friends, what about thier families? What are
Cardassians like? I've done extensive research and found there is actually alot of
information out there about our favorite enemies. I'll attempt to integrate as much
of it as possible into these stories.
Cardassia Prime will not be set exclusively aboard the ship. I've made Gul Renat
an important man in the Cardassian Military hierarcy, so he and his crew will often
be asked to return to central command. I hope to delve into the politics and home
lives of Cardassians as much as how they fight, and what weapons they use.
Which brings me to a problem I had initially. Do you know what kind of weapon Cardassian
ships fire? Well, the DS9 tech manual now says "spiral wave disruptors"
I'm going with the tech manual on this one. Do you realise there are only three ranks
in the Cardassian Military? You've heard them all before. Glinn, Gul, and Legate.
Obviously this was unacceptable. I discovered there was also a 'subcommander' mentioned
in a DS9 book. Though this is not canon, I've decided to use it. I'll also include
the ranks of Commander and Ensign, just to make the whole thing alittle less unwieldy.
I'm going to use English words for ship names. Terokena just ain't that interesting.
Eviserator is. It just says abit more don'tcha think? I've always wondered why the
universal translator translates everything but ship names.(shrug) Thank you for having
a look at the site. Hope you enjoy the stories!!!
